This morning I rolled out of bed at 10:30, the latest possible time to wake up so I could have enough time to get dressed and head to the Women Run office. I went downstairs, still in my pajamas, and the first thing I saw was my mom, sitting on the couch in her running apparel, folding clothes. I looked into the kitchen and saw the pancake mixture and pan out and my younger brother eating pancakes, which I assumed he didn’t make for himself. My mom had made him breakfast, had folded a load of laundry, cleaned the kitchen, and taken care of the dog all before I woke up and after she ran. 5 days a week, my mom goes running. It could be what she considers an ‘easy’ run, a quick 7 miler, or a more difficult run of 14+ miles. 7 days in a week however, she is running everything else. She runs to the beach, to the grocery store, our family’s social calendar. She runs to teach my siblings and I how to be the best we can be, how to give 100% in everything we can, and how to make a difference.
Left Lane Driver
Are you a left lane driver? Always on the go. Trying to juggle it all. The purpose of Women Run is to support and celebrate all that women do – for others, for their communities, for their families and hopefully for themselves. As women, we can do it all, just not all at the same time! So if you are a left lane driver, going over the speed limit and trying to get it all done, do yourself a favor . . . take a look at what you are running around for and make sure all those “things” are really things that matters. Think about it – Run for what matters.
Greenlight for Girls
Women Run supported Greenlight for Girls in its first ever U.S. event: An all day FREE event for girls aged 11-15 years old to learn about Science and Technology. 150 girls participated on June 11, 2011 in Dartmouth, MA with workshops covering Science, Health & Beauty, Oceanography and Engineering.
Greenlight for Girls is a Brussel, Belguim-based international non-profit organization that promotes Science, Technology, Engineering and Math to girls of all ages and backgrounds. According to the U.S. Dept. of Labor women make up 9 percent of engineers today and 19 percent of engineering undergraduates in the U.S. are girls. Check them out at www.greenlightforgirls.org
